Lionhead artist Mark Healey has been with the Peter Molyneux studio since its inception, but recently received plenty of attention because of his work on the independently developed Rag Doll Kung Fu, distributed via Valve's Steam service. The acclaim seems to have triggered the independent spirit within Healey, though; he's left Lionhead.
"I would like to point out that I didn't leave Lionhead on bad terms or anything, it was just time for a change really (I was there from the very start!)," he announced to fans on the official Rag Doll Kung Fu message board, noting he's still working on a to-be-released map editor for his game.
The leap from Molyneux's crib seems to be a desire for something different. David Smith and Alex Evans of Lionhead worked with Healey on Rag Doll Kung Fu and will be contributing to Healey's yet to be announced next project to start development next year "This time, it will be full time, none of this spare time business, TOO TIRING!" he says.
Just because he's making the jump doesn't mean he's completely comfortable with it; a job within Lionhead certainly must be cushy. "I have to admit, it's quite scary for me, leaving a well paid job, to have a go at it for yourself," he says, "but I've made the leap, so time to grow some wings, or quickly weave a parachute!
