Ok, so I fancy having a go at this mapping lark eh wot.
I've looked at a few tutorials and videos and the like but there's somthing that I just can't get my head around at the moment.
I get the idea of a room and two rooms with a corridor linking them and I understand about leaks in the map to the outside void. But how do you do outside areas if you can't have any leaks?? Do you just create a huge box around the whole of your map with nodraw on it to keep all of your map inside the void? Maybe I'm just missing something basic.
I preferred to post this on here as I don't mid sounding like a dunce to you lot. You don't get much sympathy on dedicated mapping forums :p

I would imagine your right by making the outside a box as well. I'm not sure though. Naigel and Dizney are the big mappers here.
Ill point them to it if I see them in IRC.

Soul said it... outdoor is practically the same as indoor mapping wise. Only then, SKY brushes will be your walls and ceilings.

ARG leaks or some ever there called are a pain.
oh naigel i still cant fix that teleporter bug. but i did come up with some things. i decomplied amap that i no that works with the weapons teleporter bug. so i used the same enity and same names same every thing, i just copyed both of them in to my map complied it and guess what it did not work. so it has to be some kind of setting

its really bad cos sk will not put it on server so i cant show it off to my friends who come on.

I removed it because someone reported to me that whenever it was on, someone would use the exploit to crash the server. Can you not like make a step or something to stop them moving the object into the problematic area?

So, outside areas are really just separate boxes anyway but with a SKY texture added to the walls and ceiling?

i know it would crash the server thats way i want to fix it. and no some one just needs to throw a weapon in the teleporter and it will happen.

The entity you mentioned is CS only as far as I know. There actually are 'area portals', but you cannot set it for weapons and/or items. You can block monsters or players.

Thanks Naigel. I assume that the multi coloured blue blocks around the edge are separate brushes and you just have one large brush capping it off on the roof (the dark blue at the top)

The light blue in different shades is all the SKY brush, its just the 3D view in Hammer changes it slightly so you can see the shape of it more easily.
The darker blue to the far right like on top of that red wall is the NULL texture, but you shouldn't need to worry about that yet.
Aslong as your map is water tight from the 'void' area outside it will run nicely, otherwise it will leak - As you know.
You can change the skybox appearance to however you want it, a list for the CS ones are here.

Simply goto (in hammer) Map > Map properties > Environment map (Cl_skyname)

what type of TFC map is it going to be?
conc / fun (conc_2v2)
cap the flag (2fort)
A v D (atack and defend) (ie 1 team atacks and works theree way though the 4 caps, and the denferds stop the atack of the attackers, like dustbowl)

what type of TFC map is it going to be?
It's a standard cap the flag map but with a nice twist. I hope to become a competent mapper and realise my idea however, given I don't get a lot of time on my PC, I may tell my idea some time in the future for someone else to map :D
