Humph.......

Well, I had to reinstall windows again this afternoon  I tried repairing my pc but that didn't work as it couldn't copy some file or something, so I went for the whole format and reinstall thing. :(

...and I don't think my windows will pass the windows validation because I have a bent CD key  and I don't have the money to get a proper one so I can't use windows update. I was able to pass the test before by disabling the active X control it uses but I think they closed that loop hole.

I have the Windows Genuine Advantage thing disabled here (Tools/Manage Add-ons) and it still lets me use the Windows Update site.

You mean no-one actually has a legit copy of XP?

Poor old William. He's given so much up to fight world poverty/disease lately he'll soon have all but two pennies to rub together.

Although, if you rub them in a circular motion they can look like three.

Well, mine came pre-installed on this system. (I know, I didn't build it myself. I feel ashamed. :( )

I went to update it one day and it moaned at me.

I don't tend to build PC's either. Yes, you know you should be doing it because it's sooo much cheaper etcetera - but I can't stand sodding jumpers/switches, slaves/masters and endless bios fiddling.

Hell, getting the H/D LED lights lined up correctly with the front of the tower is an art-form in itself.

but in the end when it all works you can brag about it to your non-IT-literate friends :P

Err the warranty on a PC has not become void for opening the unit for awhile.

Only things that become void are field replaceable units.

I like it to build PCs. I prefer Hardware. All that Jumper settings. To find out whats wrong if you pc dont work. I dont like to configure Software. Its a pain to set up a whole Server with all its configurations.

I was quite surprised when I built my last PC. It worked first time. I wasn't sure if I got them the right way round at first. Lucky for me. Anyway do what Miz said. Works for me too.

first time i built a pc i blew a few power cords and alot of fuses...

I got a PC "expert" to look at what was causing it to blow, they didnt work it out :)

It tock awhile but it turns out i had forgotten to put the copper stands on the case.

But computers are becoming easier to use every day!
