I dont know how to phrase this, but here goes:

I play a lot on your Sven server, and because i am relatively new to Sven + steam, i dont have all the custom maps. I understand the fact that i have to dl them etc, and i am willing to wait for them to be dled, but what i find anoying is when i try and join the server, some maps have to be dl in separate bits. I am not talking about you join the game and when the level finishes, you have to dl the next bit of the level, but you download the map file, then you have to download loads of .wav(amoung others) files. Each of these files only take 5-15secs to dl, but there seem to be so many of them.

Is there a way you can just stick all of these smaller files in one big file so you dl it all in one go instead of haveing to dl them all individually. At least then you know how long you are going to have to wait.

just an idea :)

There’s no way that the HL engine can do this. Its already advanced from its Pre-Steam days in that it now compresses the files before downloading them. Downloading a 1mb map is now only 500k etc.

Not long ago downloads were faster as when you download maps off servers you download at like 7k a second max. A few weeks ago you could download at your connections maximum speed as you would be auto redirected by the server to a http web server to download the maps, which was a hell of a lot faster for people. Sadly my host didn’t like the bandwidth I was using so cut me off :(
I’m looking at getting somewhere else to host the files to see if I get around this problem.
The only suggestion atm is to download the map before hand or keep waiting for the files to download.

Anyone know any cheap hosts with lots of space / bandwidth? :)

Nah would be pointless to. I know of a URL that a server uses to download maps. I wouldnt dare do that to the server owner though :P
