Hey all,
At this point, it looks like I'm going to have to shut down the TFC server. (64.81.165.122:27015)
At the end of February, my wife, son and I are moving from our downtown Seattle condo to a house that is underserved by DSL. I can get DSL, but only at speeds too slow to support hosting a game server. I'm investigating installing a T1 line, but I'm afraid that this would cost way too much money and I can't justify it at this point. Cable modems are lousy for hosting so that's out of the question. I know that there are a number of companies that I can pay to host TFC for me, but it's clear that TFC (or minimally my server) is declining in popularity, so paying money to someone else doesn't seem like the right thing for me.
I host other web sites and mail servers, and I'd like to have them within my reach, so I'm still working on a solution. So I'd rather not just blindly rule out not hosting TFC anymore. But at this point, I don't have any practical ways of doing so.
But regardless of what happens, we have to move and this will cause serious disruption -- so I'm going to announce that until further notice,
Tuesday, February 15th will be the last day for Pete's TFC.
I'll continue to update you with any more developments. It's been an amazing 4+ year run!
With thanks and respect to all,
Pete
