Intro
A demo allows us to see exactly what youve seen during play. So this way if you say someone is misbehaving we can watch your demo and agree that this was the case.

Recoring a demo
To get the best result from your demos we need to be able to look at it from a gamers perspective. First join the spectate team so we can watch over who we want. Change the view to 'First Person' and select the offending person.
From here we need to get the demo rolling. By default the ` key is the key which is bound to the console. Pressing this should display the console.
In here we need to type a few things, one to get the demo recording and the other to provide us with the players unique ID which will be used to identify them on all servers.
type the following into the console without the "":
"record demoname"
demoname can be changed to anything you want. When making demos in the past I have always used the players name, example "record hax0r". You should see in the console it says:
recording to demoname.dem.
Now type the following again without the "":
"status"
This will give us the information on all players who are currently connected to the server.
You should see something like the following:
hostname: Funky Server Name
version : 47/1.1.2.1/Stdio 2573 secure
tcp/ip : 127.0.0.1:27015
map : well at: 0 x, 0 y, 0 z
players : 3 active (16 max)

# name userid uniqueid frag time ping loss adr
# 1 "Mr Pink" 376 STEAM_0:0:xxxx 11 05:08 48 0
# 2 "Mr Red" 344 STEAM_0:0:xxxx 40 1:06:27 25 0
# 3 "Mr White" 380 STEAM_0:0:xxxx 0 00:27 30 0

Its is very important we get the player information into the demo for authenticity.

At this point we can leave the demo recording the player. Remember this evidence to prove this player is cheating. The longer the demo the better!

If you feel you have enough evidence you can now stop recording the demo by typing:
stop
The console will reply with:
Completed demo
You can now find the demo in your mod directory. For example

C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\Counter Strike\CStrike\demoname.dem
C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\Team Fortress Classic\TFC\demoname.dem

Is this for the servers ran by you or for valve because i think steam/valve are no longer taking cheating/hacking/loosers demos because its all up to there "valve anti cheat" system which takes a bs amount of time to get the offending person banned for what they have done.

People used to be able to submit demos of suspected cheaters to us, which were viewed and verified and then added to a banlist config which admins could download and add to their server. In fact the site used to be called thebanlist.com, it now bounces to the new name - gamerforumz.

Welcome to the site. :)
