My dad has obviously brought Half Life 2 on the date of release, but as he doesn't play online we are having trouble getting to play the game, all due to steam.
I've downloaded steam but as ive only get a 56k its takes ages to download the rest of the stuff thats is needed to do with the game.
Ive also put in the regristration key and everything worked fine i just cannot do the rest.
I created a new account under my dads name on steam and downloaded the updates. But i now cannot download the game unlocking bit as it gets to 50% then stops all together.
Both me and my dad are getting so annoyed with it as all we want to do is play the game.

Did you buy the game through Steam or retail?

I can't tell from your post exactly what is causing the problem, taking it's time downloading the game if bought via Steam or unlocking the content / authorising if bought retail.

I'm afraid it's all down to patience from now on - I started unlocking mine before I went to work so I don;t know how long it took but I hear that it can take up to 30 minutes to unlock.

If it doesn't seem to be doing anything just try restarting Steam and trying again.

It's worth it Sammy! Very good game!

This (http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?t=51686&highlight=really) post highlights the problem.

Steam servers may be down or you just may not be giving it enough time.

You could always install HL2 directly from the disk. They cant exactly rely on that everyone have steam, so you can probably install it seperatly. I should know, cause i almost did.
