Yeah i run the resolution at 800 x 600, the monitor is 15" and old, refresh rate is not very good at higher resolutions. Besides it's easier on my eyes, being that it's on my main PC

I dont have any cups, but I have select few of coffee rings. Where my mouse is also has warn small parts of the table which have been replaced with dirt off my hands. My mouse also has one of them dirt patterns around the buttons where my fingers lay.

Keeps having periods of failing to resolve names, keep hitting refresh enough and evetually it works again. Also the pc keeps intermittently freezing, I got so mad with it I b0rked my MS Mouse by giving a few slams when some bot on czero fragged me. Always lags at the right moment. Had that mouse for about 4/5 years now, not bad I suppose. I only just noticed that the mouse has also slowly over time changed from white to a nasty looking yellow colour.

Well I took my firewall down as I was downloading from Bittorrent (Speeds are slow if you dont). Every few hours AVG would popup saying its found an IRC backdoor on my PC. Whats worse is that the file was actually running in task manager, AVG is meant to stop it even getting on the machine never mind be running. Anyway booted into safe mode and deleted the file. One thing I am unsure of is a program called mscheck.exe. Ive never heard of it and it continues to run on boot. I can close it and it doesnt seem to have any effect, its just when its running my connection seems busy doing something. Doing a netstat shows im connected to all sorts of peoples machines. Anyway just opened the relevant ports for bittorrent now and its still downloading quick. Still need a reinstall I think though.

the theme is called NeoGeniX and can be found on neowin here (http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=511476) To use it you need their uxtheme patch and crap if you dont have it already.

For some reason they are only 800x600, but i have them stretched to 1440x900 and i dont have any problems with them

Filename is: Luna_Element_v5_1_Blue_by_tornado5.exe so its just the Blue Style. Iam using lunaelement since december and iam very happy with the new style. The UX-Theme Patch is way better sollution than style XP which runs in background all the time :) I chose the snake to be my background.

I wasn't on my old system. I've used it on a number of systems and each time its ran pretty crap. Now though with the Quad core it runs fine. Vista seems to do alot of background tasks. Out of the blue the hard drives will decide to go crazy. This used to create lag in games. It still does it now but never causes me any issues. From my experiance don't bother with Vista unless you have at least more than one core/cpu.

You can stop the hdd thrashing by disabling the indexing process. i think it's listed as "Windows Search" in "Services"

I do think they are supposed to be addressing this somewhat in the SP1 to be beta'd soon afaik.

The indexing feature is nice when your wanting to find files.

Normal windows search is pretty good anyway and no slouch in itself. It's whether u want to risk your hdd failing prematurely just because of a search function that's a little quicker.

I've disabled it.

Had this system a while now. Vista isn't too bad, although I couldn't use it though on slower systems. I've seen it running on Dual Core laptops with 2GB of memory and it's still very slow. Its just far too resource hungry. I went for Vista mainly to get used to the OS as I need to be able to navigate my way around it for customers.
