Thought it was pretty cool info and I'd not heard it before so, there ya go.
Q. Now that CS has made the move to the Source engine, will community maps still be automatically downloadable in-game as was the case with the original HL/CS?
Doug Lombardi: Yes, and Steam allows us to load the map file in advance of the map change.

Waaaa thats a nice move, although how they do that without causing any lag is beyond me. My wish was they made some sort of file format that mappers can use to stick their maps in. People download this file and when they run the program it automattically finds their Steam install and installs the map along with its models etc.
I find installing maps from zips a real pain in the arse now with stem as you have to go though about 8 folders to reach your unzip destination.

When a new map comes on the server that you don't have, you'll have already downloaded it while playing the previous map, so you can play it without having to wait when the map comes on.
