Nothing I would imagine. Just updated to the 4.10 Cats from ATI for this Radeon 9800 and found it to help frame rates quite a bit. So hopefully I will be able to enjoy a nice looking Half-Life 2.

I think I'm only on 4.8 so I'll update tonight if it's up to 4.10
Pinky, I assume that fps is from the HL2 stress test? What setting are you using on that?

Stocking up on microwave meals, tinned foods and spare pairs of undercrackers.

I'm going to buy a new GFX card... I want to have some details at a decent FPS (which is, I think, not possible with my current GFX card).

I'm really looking forward to that too C-X. Also, FEAR should be very good too.

I can recommend the ATI Radeon X800 series. Very sweet. My figures for 3DMark and Aquamark are in my sig but they are with the Catalyst 4.8's. Will update them when I up to the 4.10. :D

I'm just gonna stick with my mediocore rig:
GeForce FX5200 128mb
512mb RAM
Athlon XP 2500+ 1.8 GHz
I'm able to play Doom3 on the lowest setting (though with shadows and specular effects and such still on), and it runs smoothly, so I expect I should be able to play HL2 on atleast the medium settings and still get good gameplay.

The Omega and DNA drivers. Do you get better performance from those or is it just a feature rich option.

Apparently you get better performance and fps from them but with your ninja rig I wouldn't suppose it matters what drivers you use.

TBH the latest drivers from ATI run CS:S much better.

well, all this stuff about drivers and all i know is i download the new catalysts for me lovely cheap 9600PRO 256mb everytime i hear of any changes and it runs doom 3 in high quality 1024x768 with only the odd low time of framerate. I believe this to be very good for my graphics card and hopefully i get the same performance with half life 2 so i don't have to go out and spend 200 bar on a new one
