Gosh I dont know how many times I have to tell people where I work to get some sort of antivirus and firewall installed. In the past 3 months weve found 6 virus's on our users PC's. Each time it clogs up the network for other users. I was just wondering how many of you lot use either or both?

I have a router at home for my firewall protection and also run AVG.

I have an adsl router at home, but it hasn't got a built in firewall so I use ZoneAlarm on all the networked PC's coupled with AVG. :)

Ditto.

Plus Norton as well.

Better safe than sorry!

Heh, most people dont tend to install anything until they are hit. I suppose people just dont realise.

Yeah, some people only tend to install service packs after the event :D

I'd nag Pip to death if she didn't use either :naughty:

I have a router with inbuilt firewall, plus i use ZoneAlarm and PC-Cillin 2003, 2002 and 2000 on each PC. To be honest i'd feel naked without a firewall or AV software and would never be without them.

I decided ZoneAlarm when hidden behind a router was being paranoid.

I thought that too however, it's a lot better that way for identifying programs etc that are attempting to access the internet.

I think I use the hw router firewall, Zonealarm, AVG, Norton, Google pop-up stopper & pestpatrol.

Paranoid, who, me?

Norton being another virus scanner or another firewall? Either way thats some strain on your system. Double the overhead on your connection or slow your PC right down by having two av scanners scan one file. I also use Google popup blocker. Not as good as Proxomitron but easier to manage imo.

I use Adaware6 to check for/destroy spyware and have also installed FreeSurfer 2 to catch all those annoying popups.

SK, you may think that hiding behind a router and using Zonealarm is being paranoid but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Checked now I'm at home - I must have uninstalled AVG when I installed Norton - and its the Virus scanner, not the firewall - 3 firewalls, now that's just excessive :)

I'm behind a Router, use Norton AV and the Norton Firewall. Hasn't been infected to my knowledge, and only I decide what programs comes in on my computer, meaning that there's not a lot of spyware on my comp. I use my trusty Point-at-cross-in-corner-and-leftclick 3.96c to block popups.

Great well im onsite and a PC has been infected with the RIRC.A Virus. Its a new one it seems and AVG or Symantec dont have virus definitions for it yet. Making it worse loads of device drivers are missing on this PC, not even a mouse. I dont mind virus's, when theres a removal tool at least :)

No mouse? Use brainwaves to communicate

Well got rid of virus but left with the aftermath of no mouse. After about 30-40 reboots with different configs ive managed to get it back. A device was missing in the system.ini and about 3 lines of jargon deleted. God knows how it got there but it seems to be common on WinME apparently. Gonna finish up here then head back home for lunch, bloody freezing here, hands like ice. Anyway im going on and on :blah:
