From Halflife2.net (www.halflife2.net) regarding the Release Candidate.

We reported just under two weeks ago that Valve were indeed aiming for a September 15th date for submitting the release candidate to Vivendi and today the man himself, Gabe Newell, has confirmed:
Yes, the RC went to VU yesterday.Naturally people are bound to be sceptic of this forum post, especially considering the incident with the fake gold announcment recently; however I have personally confirmed it with Gabe and so have a few other people too. From here on I'd like to urge everybody not to contact Gabe for anymore confirmations. There's only so many times in one day you can reply "yes" to an e-mail!

You can find the original forum post here on HL2Fallout (http://www.hl2fallout.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=6610&st=0&#entry121781).

Thanks to stokkes for breaking the news in this thread (http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?t=37953&page=1&pp=15).

UPDATE: I have now also confirmed with Gabe Newell that the Counter-Strike: Source and Half-Life: Source release candidates have also been sent to Vivendi

Not entirely... this actually means nothing... VU can still say it's not good and then delay it again.

it depends. remember that sc3 had quite a few release candidates, and an RC needs like 2 weeks to be passed. Once passed, we'll get the gold message. They need the game to be good enough for 'single player with no internet connection' use, since not everyone who will buy the game will be able to get on Steam and get the latest bugfixes. Needless to say, they don't want any really apparent and easily recognizable bugs in the game for these people.
