Half Life² release

There is a lot of speculation, as always, over on the Halflife2.net (http://www.halflife2.net) site about the release date of HL².

From reading through all the rubbish and flames, the best guess I can make from all the information is that the CS:S Beta test will end within the week and Valve will hopefully be releasing the RC (Release Candidate) to Vivendi for approval after which the "Gone Gold" will be announced.

It will then take from 2-4 weeks for copying and distribution before we see it on the shelves.

Either way, give or take the odd week here or there, we should see HL² on our PCs sooner, rather than later.

The optomistic out there are touting a 30th September release date (2004 that is!) which, apparently, coincides with HL¹'s birthday. :p

for all we know, shops might as well just put "september 30th, 2007" if they want to.
